Soil classification is predominantly Grade 3 with a small area of Grade 2 at the northern end of Lot 1. Lot 1 is part of the Wigton Moor Soil Association being permeable fine and coarse loamy soils while Lot 2 is part of the Foggathorpe 2 Soil Association being slowly permeable seasonally waterlogged stoneless clayey and fine loamy clayey soils.
