Environmental Stewardship Schemes

treesIn 2005 DEFRA introduced two entirely new grant schemes under the umbrella of Environmental Stewardship, being the Entry Level Scheme (ELS) and the Higher Level Scheme (HLS).

The ELS Scheme was revised & updated in October 2008 and now offers more flexible options to farmers.

The ELS offers added income to farmers in addition to the SFP in return for agreeing to a number of management options. It is also possible to have ELS alongside an existing Countryside Stewardship Scheme.

The payment is £30 per hectare per year across all eligible land, including woodland, over a five year period.

HLS is a similar scheme to the old Countryside Stewardship Scheme, being target specific. The payments are variable and include both annual and capital amounts.

Our experienced team are able to offer the following services:

  • General advice on ELS and HLS.
  • Registration of land.
  • Initial farm assessment and advice on selecting your best ELS Options
  • Preparation of Farm Environment Record and Options Maps
  • Use of "Promap" digital measuring system and manual surveying
  • Management and advice for existing Countryside Stewardship Schemes
