About Us

In 1871 Jacob Stephenson left his farm at Wighill and went to sell livestock in the local auction market at Tadcaster, and thus founded the family firm of Stephenson and Son.

We are still here six generations later, the same philosophy still driving us.

"To provide a service of the highest quality to the agricultural community."

From its simple auction roots, the business has changed to meet the ever-shifting demands.

We have separated out the Residential and Commercial business in Central Yorkshire to form Stephensons Estate Agents, and we have a new partnership of Boulton and Cooper Stephensons covering the whole range of services in the Ryedale area.

Stephenson and Son Agricultural also has 2 associated partnerships. The first with Stuart Wroe operating as Stephenson Wroe in South Yorkshire, and the second with David Lindley to create Stephenson Lindley based at our Knaresborough office.

All the partners are fully qualified Chartered Surveyors and fellows of the Association of Agricultural Valuers.

Served his apprenticeship on the Yorkshire Wolds and then moved to a family firm of auctioneers and valuers in Lincolnshire before joining the business in 1979.
